Candy Butchers
started out in the early 90’s as an acoustic duo in Boston Mass.
While the rest of the music scene was cranking out their own version of
grunge and alt rock, Mike Viola and Todd Foulsham were playing short tight
dark and catchy pop songs. They had a stripped down sound armed only with
an acoustic guitar, a snare drum, and Everly Brothers style harmonies.
They played wherever they could find a gig; opening up for comedians at
comedy clubs and occasional stints crashing karaoke nights in the suburbs
of Boston, and of course the subway. It wasn’t until Mike moved
to New York City that the music finally started to take root in a scence
somewhere. In the summer of 95 they took a residency at a small cabaret
club called Fez and quickly got the attention of the music industry. (for
a blow by blow description of each record see the album descriptions in
the store)
Candy Butchers have been through many incarnations over the years since
the acoustic duo days; power pop trio, full on rock band, orchestral pop
ensemble with horns and strings, but at the center of it all is always
Mike Viola’s voice and his songs.
The CD release of the Candy Butchers’ earliest recordings, “MAKING
UP TIME” available HERE exclusively at mikeviola.com on October
16th 2006!
